A tsunami is a series of large waves generated by an abrupt movement on the ocean floor that can result from an earthquake, an underwater landslide, a volcanic eruption or - very rarely - a large meteorite strike. When we get to plates together one plate pushes the other plate on the other side and pushes it down. So it creates lots and lots of friction so it drags the upper plate down and the it lets go and pops out and create a earth quake and tsunami and that process takes hundreds of years to pop out and cause the tsunami and earth quakes.
