Imagine this, you're sitting in your house, minding your everyday business, when you see an approaching wave, reaching heights of 100 feet! Scrambling, you run out of your house and try to beat the wave, rolling in past the tide and invading land. You look back and see the wave devour your house, along with many others. Later, you see the wave retreat back into the ocean, and you look at your house. Shingles ripped off, and soggy wooden floorboards. Sadly, this isn't just imagined by some people, it's reality. The impact of tsunamis can be devastating. Due to the height of the waves, the wave can push through the shore and creep into land. Then, rippling at high speeds, they tear through houses, ruin lots of land, and flood other lands. Also, at times, people cannot run fast enough, and get taken in by the huge wave, sometimes ending fatally. Also, if you consider not only the initial wave, but also the other water that that wave drags behind it, that causes even more extreme damage. In around the last 30 years, there has been around 18 tsunamis, with a total of 230k people passing away. Millions of dollars of damage was caused, and some places have yet to be repaired. Overall, the damage is horrible, and very long lasting.
